ST. LOUIS - Junior Lauren MacCormick scored the only goal of the Atlantic 10 match as the University of Dayton women's soccer team posted a 1-0 shutout against Saint Louis Sunday at Hermann Field. The Flyers improve to 12-5-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the A-10 with the road victory.

"We were very hopeful that we would be coming home with two wins," said UD head coach Mike Tucker. "This win really keeps us in a position to get a bye in the first round of the A-10 Tournament. We control our own destiny and if we can win our next two games at home we'll get that."

MacCormick's goal came in the 3rd minute off a corner kick from sophomore Kelly Blumenschein, her fifth assist of the season. It was MacCormick's fourth goal of the season, and her second game winner.

"The goal was scored early," said Tucker. "It was on a corner that popped up and the keeper couldn't get to it. 'Mac' and another player went up for it and 'Mac' won that physical battle.

"She is playing with a renewed energy," he added. "It's great to see her and Caitlin Proffitt working so well together up top."

Senior Deana Waintraub had two saves in goal as her back line of Kathleen Beljan, Allison Giner and Kelsey Miller fended off most threats, only allowing the Billikens (9-4-4, 5-3-1 A-10) two shots on goal.

“Our defense did a fantastic job,” said Tucker. “They did Friday night as well. Both games, our defense was shutting down the league’s leading scorers. The three girls in the back just played phenomenal. They took away everything Saint Louis likes to do.”

Dayton hosts Fordham this Friday, Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m. and La Salle on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. at Baujan Field to wrap up the regular season.
