FLYERS TAKE DOWN COLONIALS 1-0
Oct. 20, 2006
Dayton, Ohio - The Dayton Flyers (7-4-3) used a season-high 24 shots to take down the George Washington Colonials (9-8-0) at Baujan Field on Friday night. Sophomore Amanda Gallow tallied her third goal of the season to lead the Flyers to their fifth victory in A-10 action. The Flyers moved to 5-1-0 in the conference, while George Washington fell to 2-5-0. The Flyers came out to a quick start as they out-shot the Colonials 5-0 in the first 20 minutes of the match. In the 28th minute, Dara Elk blasted a shot toward GW keeper Amie Kern. Kern made the save, but the rebound came back to Gallow, who placed it in the back of the net. It was the only shot for Gallow during the entire match. Dayton continued the pressure during the second half. The Flyers took 14 shots to the Colonials' 7 during the second half. UD also benefited from a season-high 10 corner kicks as they held George Washington to a season-low of one. Several of the corners for the Flyers had potential as redshirt sophomore Abril Carbajal saw two of her shots hit the right post. The win puts the Flyers back into first place in the A-10 standings. The Flyers will continue their quest for the regular season A-10 championship as they take on the La Salle Explorers on Sunday, October 22. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. EDT at Baujan Field. |
