DAYTON, Ohio - For the second consecutive game the Flyer women's soccer team produced four goals. Dayton moved to 11-4-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the Atlantic 10 after a 4-1 victory over Duquesne Sunday at Baujan Field. UD also tallied a 4-0 victory against St. Bonaventure on Friday. Junior Lauren MacCormick provided most of the damage, scoring two goals, including the game-winner. She had a solid weekend, also notching a goal against the Bonnies.

"I still think we are where we have to be or need to be and it's really good to be playing well towards the end of the year when you're heading towards that tournament," said UD head coach Mike Tucker. "Our goal is to get a seed and be in the tournament. If we keep playing like this, then we have a great chance."

The Flyers scored early and often in the first half. Junior Mandi Bäck's blast in the 19th minute from 20 yards out put the Flyers on top for good. It was her sixth goal this season.

MacCormick took care of the rest of the scoring in the first period for UD. She scored in the 25th minute after combination passes from Caitlin Proffitt and Kelly Blumenschein. The forward and keeper kicked the ball at the same time and MacCormick won the battle and slid the ball to the back of the net.

MacCormick struck again just a little over three minutes later. After a feed from senior Amanda Gallow, she deked her defender and redirected the ball to the lower right corner.

"The offense is one. A lot of people had shots and I got a lot of good passes," said MacCormick. "With both my goals, my teammates created them. It was more of just being in the right place."

Proffitt added a goal to go along with her assist, providing the Flyers with their lone goal of the second half. Much like MacCormick's goal, Proffitt and the keeper arrived at the pass from Colleen Gibson at the same time. Proffitt overpowered the GK and the ball trickled over the goal line.

Duquesne's lone goal of the match came in the 78th minute. Shaina Geisler scored close range on the assist from Jenna Farneti. The Dukes fall to 6-5-3 overall and 4-3-1 with the setback.

The Flyers outscored their A-10 counterparts 8-1 this weekend, after coming off a weekend that saw them score just two goals (2-1 win against Rhode Island and 1-0 loss to UMass).

"A huge thing for us was that we wanted to communicate a lot better," said senior goalkeeper Deana Waintraub. "Each defender was talking to each other, we were passing off players a lot better and I think that definitely helped us in the victories this weekend."

"Even only playing three in the back sometimes we were able to get backs forward and that puts a lot of pressure on the other team," added Tucker. "You attack and defend as a team and we did that well today."

The Flyers face the A-10 preseason favorite Charlotte 49ers this Friday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at Transamerica Field.

"We have four games left and next weekend is going to prove to be the strongest weekend," said Waintraub. "We will face Charlotte and SLU but these last two games we were climbing the ladder."
