FLYERS PULL OUT VICTORY IN DOUBLE OVERTIME AGAINST DUKES

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton women's soccer team pulled out a close game on Friday as the Flyers won 2-1 in double overtime over the Duquesne Dukes at Arthur J. Rooney Field. Sophomore Mandi Bäck scored the game-winner that lifted UD to 11-3-0 overall and 5-1-0 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Dayton is 4-0 in double overtime games so far this season. The game was close throughout the first half as both teams remained scoreless in the first 45 minutes of play. It wasn't until the 62nd minute that the Dukes would connect on a shot taking a 1-0 lead in the second half. Dayton answered back shortly after when Kristen Persichini headed the ball in past Duquesne goalkeeper Brittany Findley. The assist went to freshman Kelly Blumenschein for her third of the season. The score would stay knotted at 1-1 as the match headed into second overtime. UD would then get the goal it would need to take the A-10 win as Bäck scored off an assist from Alli Foust in the 107th minute. Dayton out shot Duquesne 24-21 in the closely contested match as both teams finished even in saves with nine. With the loss, Duquesne fell to 6-5-0 overall and 4-2-0 in the Conference. The Flyers return to action Sunday, October 14 in Olean, NY as the team is set to take on St. Bonaventure.
