UD WOMEN'S SOCCER EDGES RHODE ISLAND 2-1
Oct. 10, 2008
KINGSTON, R.I. - Senior Amanda Gallow delivered for the Flyer women's soccer team Friday night, putting away the game-winning goal in UD's 2-1 win over Rhode Island in an Atlantic 10 battle. The win keeps Dayton's unbeaten A-10 record (3-0-1) intact. "It's obviously a good feeling to be where we're at right now," said UD Head Coach Mike Tucker. "We would like to have that tie (against Saint Joseph's) back. I feel like we are not playing to the best of our ability, but the girls are working hard and getting results." Gallow scored in the 25th minute of the match to provide the difference maker, her second game-winner this season. "Amanda just got behind her defender out wide. She didn't have the greatest angle but she played a perfectly placed ball," said Tucker. "You can just see the fire in her eyes. Her expectations are to play in an NCAA tournament. She played every minute of this game and her hard work is contagious to everyone else on the team." Sophomore Kelly Blumenschein also continues to come up with big goals for the Flyers (9-3-1 overall, 3-0-1 A-10). She scored her fourth of the season to get Dayton on the board first. Junior Caitlin Proffitt dished off to Blumenschein who crushed a shot from 40 yards out into the upper right 90 in the 18th minute. "Kelly's goal was huge. We didn't want to play from behind because Rhode Island is a great possession team," said Tucker. "She is creating so many opportunities." Senior Deana Waintraub came up with seven saves and the Flyers are 7-0-1 when she is in goal. The Rams (4-9-1, 0-5-0 A-10) outshot Dayton 20-14. The Rhody's scored in the 63rd minute on a shot by Courtney David. The Flyers play at Massachusetts this Sunday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. at Rudd Field in another A-10 tilt. |
