PHILADELPHIA - The University of Dayton women's soccer team had to settle for a 1-1 double overtime draw against St. Joseph's in Atlantic 10 play Sunday at Finnesey Field.

The Flyers (7-3-1, 1-0-1 A-10) remain undefeated in conference action, but missed several opportunities against the Hawks, outshooting SJU 31-12.

"Our finishing has been atrocious," said UD head coach Mike Tucker. "We get one goal and then we get comfortable. When we only put away one goal on 31 shots it isn't going to work. We're creating great chances and serving great balls. We've just got to finish."

St. Joseph's (6-2-1, 1-0-1 A-10), also undefeated in the conference, is a much-improved squad from 2007 when the Hawks went 3-15-1 on the season.

Sophomore Jerica DeWolfe scored her second goal of the season -the lone goal of this match for the Flyers in the 25th minute. UD held on to the 1-0 lead at the half.

"Jerica had a one-on-one and hit an absolute rocket on the lower side of the crossbar," said Tucker. "She strikes the ball really well and that was a big-time goal for her."

The Flyers pummeled SJU in the second half, racking up 17 shots to the Hawks' seven. One of those seven found the back of the net, however. Jen Pfeifer scored in the 52nd minute off a deflected shot to tie the game at 1-all.

"They are a lot better. St. Joseph's has a lot of solid players," said Tucker. "They played a nice defensive game and teams in the A-10 need to look out for them."

UD continued to dominate in the overtime periods, putting up seven shots compared to SJU's two shots, but neither team could muster up the golden goal. Dayton's Mandi Bäck had four shots on goal, while the entire Hawks team had five shots on goal.

"With the chances we're creating we should be putting up four or five goals a game," said Tucker. "We've got to get better because we're going to get everyone's best game. I'm never happy with anything less than a win."

Senior Deana Waintraub, who owns a 5-0-1 record this season, had four saves in goal for the Flyers.

Dayton will continue A-10 action when it plays at Xavier Sunday, Oct. 5 at 4 p.m.
