Stephanie Wurth's Journal from the Xavier Trip Sunday, September 25, 2005Today is a big game versus our conference rival Xavier! Last year we were 11-0 in conference, so needless to say, we'd like to stay undefeated in conference! The day started out great because we all got to sleep in! I took full advantage of this and had to be awakened by my alarm at about 11:30 a.m. Needless to say, I got a good 12 hours of sleep. AWESOME! We had a pre-game lunch at KU (Kennedy Union) at about 12:30 p.m., as a team, and then it was time to head down to Cincinnati to play XU. We left for Cincinnati at 1:30 p.m. and a short 45 minutes later, we were there. We hardly had time to watch a movie, but there was a Euchre game going on as usual courtesy of Kim and Manoj, Coach D and Jaime Monahan! We got dressed in a unique place - since there was a Men's game being played beforehand, we had to get dressed in a classroom instead of a locker-room. All the locker-rooms were being used. The seniors did their traditional "Top 10 Reasons to beat Xavier" and that got us psyched to play! It was unusual not to see the UD parents tailgating beforehand, but I guess they tailgated at Jaime Monahan's house instead of at Xavier so they could also watch the Bengal's game. The game went well, and although we had some early scares, we we won 3-0 on some awesome goals by Amanda Gallow, Jen Leslie and Kristen Persichini. It was nice to record a shut-out as well. All in all, a great way to start the Atlantic 10 season! After the game, we got back on the bus and headed for the best part of the night; team dinner at Coach Tucker's house. We had amazing home cooked food, courtesy of Mrs. Tucker and Coach Tucker! Chicken fajitas, Sour Cream mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, doritoe salad, and every kind of dessert imaginable! Every year the team stops at Coach Tucker's house after an away game and I can't wait till next year because the food was incredible and it was really nice to see Coach Tucker's house! Manoj's wife and son were there also and whenever Kiran is around, it is a lot of fun - and it's cool to have a little kid around our team. He played with his toy trains and I wish you could have seen his face when his parents let him get a lollipop from Kristen. It was awesome! Everyone says they are a family, but we really felt like one to have Sunday dinner at our Coach's house with our team. Thank you Coach Tucker and Mrs Tucker for a wonderful dinner! It was a short trip but a fun one nonetheless - time to get back to UD and catch up with some TV shows and homework of course! By: Stephanie Wurth #6 |
