KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Flyers had a successful day at the 29th annual Head of Tennessee regatta on Saturday as Dayton won two events and had at least one boat in the top five in six of seven events.

Dayton placed sixth among 22 collegiate crews in the event with 24 points overall. However, UD was third among women's only squads behind Tennessee (32) and Clemson (30). Complete results of the meet are available at www.knoxrowing.com.

UD won both the lightweight eight and lightweight four. The Flyers dominated the field in the lightweight eight as the "A" boat finished the 3000 meter course in 19:11.7, which was 69 seconds ahead of the field. The lightweight four "A" shell edged out a boat from the Atlanta Rowing Club by 12 seconds to earn victory.

"I am happy with how we did," Head Coach Geoff Dillard said. "The lightweights performed well and proved they will be very strong this year."

The Flyers also placed second in the Championship 1x as well as fourth and fifth in the Collegiate Novice eight. UD also placed fourth in the Championship eight and fifth in the Collegiate Novice four.

"I am happy with where we are at right now as a team," Dillard said. "We are setting ourselves up well for the spring, but we got to continue to work hard and get faster. If we continue to improve and push each other then we will be in for an exciting spring."
