DAYTON PLACES 11TH AT HEAD OF CHARLES

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The University of Dayton women's rowing squad had a successful debut to its 2004-05 season with an 11th place finish in the collegiate eights at the 40th annual Head of the Charles regatta on Sunday.

Dayton placed 11th out of 50 boats in the competition after completing the three-mile course in a time of 13:34.125. The Flyers were well ahead of their fellow A-10 competitors Saint Joseph's and Rhode Island who finished 29th and 31st respectively. UD was represented in the competition by six seniors, two juniors and a sophomore. Coxswain Amber Iwais (Cleveland, Ohio), stroke Alena Eichenseher (Madison, Wis.), 7-seat Katie Lesko (Dayton, Ohio), 6-seat Lisa Price (Centerville, Ohio), 3-seat Anson Brennan (Fort Thomas, Ky.), and bow Emily Poles (Boston, Mass.) made up the senior class at the Charles. They were joined by juniors, 4-seat Elizabeth Gerber (Wilmette, Ill.) and 2-seat Marie Doenges (St. Mary's, Ohio) as well as sophomore 5-seat Monica Lange (Cincinnati, Ohio).

Dayton will be back in action on Saturday at Head of the Tennessee in Knoxville.
