TWO FLYERS EXCEL AT THE 2008 US ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS

    CAMDEN, N.J. - Two Dayton Flyers, Nicki Bianco and Anna Heink, won the Women's Intermediate Lightweight Four and the Women's Open Lightweight 8 at the 2008 USRowing Club National Championships.

    The UD duo served as key contributors on the Thompson Boat Center USRowing Development Camp squad, where they are also joined by UD coxswain Kate Athmer.

    Heink was a member of the Varsity 8 boat that finished in fourth at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Championship. She also rowed with Varsity 8 for wins over George Washington, West Virginia, Duquesne, and George Mason during the 2007-08 campaign. She was also named to the All-Atlantic 10 Second Team.

    Bianco, who also raced on the Flyers' Varsity 8 boat this season, graduated in May with a degree in accounting.

    Heink and Bianco also achieved a Bronze medal in the Senior Lightweight 4 and competed in the Intermediate Lightweight 2.

    Athmer coxed the UD Varsity 8 through the fall and spring and was First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection. At this weekend's National Championships she achieved a second place finish in the Senior Openweight 8 and a fourth place finish in the Senior Lightweight 4.

    Held on the Cooper River, more than 60 boats were crowned champions at the intermediate, senior and elite levels during the five-day regatta.
