UD's next match is April 2

UD's next match is April 2

March 30, 2005

On the last night of the UD rowing team's spring training trip to Elberton, Georgia, the women took a break from the strenuous workouts of the week to hold a talent show, where members of the team showcased feats of strength and talents unknown. The Flyers first showcased their talents against Bucknell on the first day of spring training.

Races were judged by the furthest distance over seven minutes (a standard time for a 2000 meter race). In the Varsity 8, UD defeated Bucknell by four boatlengths over the seven minute span, while in the same race the Second Varsity 8 finished two lengths behind the Bison after grabbing an early lead.

The UD Lightweight 8, which was ranked as high as 15th in the nation last year, started strong with a close victory over Bucknell's Junior Varsity 8 won by a sprint at the finish. The Lightweights could not overcome the Bison Varsity 8, though, and lost by a boatlength.

In the Varsity 4 match, the Flyers took a quick lead but eventually lost by five boatlengths.

Coaches Feight and Vossler watched their Novice group compete for the first time this year. In the Novice 8, the Flyers lost by two boatlengths to the talented Bucknell freshmen, but found a two-length victory matching their Second Novice 8 boat to BU's Second 8. The Third Novice 8 came up five lengths short against the Bison.

The next match for the Flyers is Saturday, April 2 at Laker Harsha, Cincinnati, in a meet featuring the University of Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, and Indiana. Races begin at 9 a.m.
