INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of Dayton Flyers women's rowers put together a strong showing at the 2009 Head of the Eagle regatta.

Leading the way for UD was the Novice 8 boat which tallied a second place finish. But the Novice 8's were not the only group to take second.

Dayton's Varsity Four, Second Varsity Four and Third Varsity 4 each took second in their respective heats as well.

"It was pretty nasty weather out there," Copeland said. "It was nice to see that they worked so hard and consistently. Most of the girls race the 5000m course twice, leaving them quite fatigued. That made it good for racing and conditioning."

Those windy and cold conditions were the only damper on the day for UD as Copeland utilized various combinations to fill up all of the heats.

Dayton's Varsity 8 placed in third, as well as the Flyer Second Varsity 8. The Flyer's Novice Fours also had a strong showing placing in third and fourth.

Competing in the Head of the Eagle were Dayton, Grand Valley State, Purdue, University of Chicago, Illinois, Michigan State University and Northwestern.

The final fall meet of the 2009 season will take place the weekend of Nov. 14-15 as the Flyers will travel to Columbus, Ohio for the Ohio State Dual Meet and Ohio State Regatta.
