In their first event of the fall the season, the University of Dayton women's rowing team won the Varsity Four open meet as the Flyers competed against West Virginia and George Washington.

The Dayton A Boat came in with a time of 20:42 in the Varsity Four meet. Kristin Dormish led the Flyers in the coxswain position while Lydia Caldwell, Grace Doepker, Erin Quinn and Cynde Mason led UD to victory.

Speaking of Doepker, she had a great summer rowing for Penn AC in Philadelphia. She competed in the single, double and pair in the Canadian Henley and won at the club nationals.

This upcoming weekend, Oct. 17 and 18, Doepker travels to compete in the Head of the Charles in the lightweight single. Information on the race can be found at www.hocr.org.

Doepker races Sunday, Oct. 18 at 2:25 p.m. ET.

"Essentially, these are some of the best rowers in the world, especially on the top end," head coach Derek Coepland said. "This is a really good opportunity for her, and an appropriate next step to build on her great summer."

In the same Varsity Four meet, Dayton's B squad came in third with a time of 21:01. The Dayton C boat was close behind with a time of 22:26 and the Dayton D squad coming in at 23:58.

UD came close in the Varsity Eight Open meet as well finishing in third behind West Virginia's A squad and George Washington. The Flyers A boat came in with a time of 19:32, while the Dayton B squad finished with a time of 21:32.

Next up for Dayton is the Head of the Eagle on Oct. 31. The event will be held in Indianapolis, Ind.
