CAMDEN, NJ - After three competitive races in two days, Dayton placed eighth overall at IRA Lightweight National Championships on an overflowing Cooper River.

After heavy rains and intense thunderstorms on Thursday night rose the levels of the Cooper River by over three feet, Dayton took to debris filled waters on Friday morning for its first heat of the lightweight eight. The Flyers finished in a time of 7:33.18, good for sixth behind a field that included eventual champion Wisconsin as well as Grand Finalists Princeton and Central Florida.

Then after a delay in the racing schedule to allow the river commission's need to open the dams and lower the water level, UD took part in the recopage on Friday afternoon. Dayton bettered its time to 7:18.70 and placed third to advance to the Petite Finals on Saturday.

The Petite Finals saw the Flyers challenge for a victory, but fall just behind MIT. UD closed out its season with a time of 7:12.07 - a 21 second improvement from its time on Friday morning. The eighth place finish for Dayton cemented their eighth place national ranking in the latest USRowing Coaches Poll.
