DAYTON, Ohio - In their spring season opener, it was no surprise the Dayton Flyers Varsity 8 and Lightweight 8 continued their winning ways.

Against the Duquesne Dukes, the Varsity 8 rowed a time of 5:51.5 defeating the Duquesne team by more than 23 seconds.

Meanwhile, the UD Lightweight 8 first lineup looked strong in their opener rowing a time of 6:14.7 to Duquesne's 6:38.9. The second lineup for the Flyers did not win their match after rowing a time of 6:09.8 to Duquesne's 6:07.0.

The meet was moved to Eastwood Metropark because of river flooding. On a 1750 meter course, the teams began each race unbouyed and had a floating start.

In the other events, Dayton Varsity Four fell 6:52.9 to 6:50.0 in their first event of the year.

The Frosh/Novice 8 put together a strong showing in their heat finishing in second. The Flyers rowed a time of 7:12.7.

In the Novice 4 race, the Dayton A and Dayton B teams finished in third and fourth respectively. Dayton A rowed a time of 7:22.9, while the Dayton B team came in at 7:37.6.

The Dayton Lightweight Four also had a strong showing finishing in second with a time of 6:48.3.

The next meet for the Flyers is a race at Cincinnati against the Cincinnati Bearcats, Eastern Michigan Eagles and Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday, March 31.
