GAUS, GREUTER READY FOR ONE MORE TOURNAMENT
April 19, 2007 For Lindsey Greuter and Melissa Gaus, the Dayton Flyers' two seniors, it's been a fun, challenging journey in their collegiate golf careers. But it all comes to a close as Gaus and Greuter will lead the Dayton Flyers at the Colonial Athletic Association Championship starting on Friday at Olde Homestead Golf Course in New Tripoli, Penn. This year's tournament will be a three round, 36-hole tournament that will last until Sunday. Last season UD finished eighth at the CAA Championships with Gaus placing 22nd while Greuter tied for 29th. Both Gaus and Greuter carded their best rounds of the three-day conference championship on the final day. Gaus fired a 79 to finish with a combined score of 254 (85-90-79). Greuter had an 82 in the final round to finish with a 259 (92-85-82). Throughout their UD careers, Gaus and Greuter have continued to play at a consistently high level for the Flyers. Gaus has enjoyed a consistent 2007 spring season averaging 87 strokes per round. Her best performance came at the Bellarmine Invitational when she finished in a tie for 14th. In her UD career, the Noblesville, Ind., native has been a strong performer for the Flyers. Her best performance came her junior year when she tallied a 76 at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate. Off the course, Gaus is one of the Flyers' premiere performers in the classroom. She has consistently achieved a grade point average above 3.5 and participates in numerous community service activities. Greuter has picked up her level of play in her final season as well ranking third on the team in stroke percentage. In three of the five rounds she has played this season, Greuter has shot a score of 83. As a junior, Greuter competed in six tournaments and shot her low round of 76 at the IPFW Fall Classic. For the season, Greuter completed 11 rounds, taking 917 strokes, for an 83.36 average per round, which was the lowest on the team. The Chardon, Ohio native is another Flyer who excels in the classroom also achieving a grade point average above 3.5 and serving as a team leader. Gaus, Greuter, and freshmen Katie Dempsey, Casey Peterson and Katie Gallagher will participate in this year's CAA Championship for UD head coach Sally Kosters. Dayton is coming off a 10th place finish at the Longwood Invitational. Dempsey led the Flyers shooting rounds of 79, 80 and 82 to finish in 15th place among individual golfers. As a team Dayton averages 342.14 score in seven rounds during the 2007 spring season. Its best score this spring is a 334 at the Northern Kentucky Invitational back on March 25.
