Freshman Katie Dempsey leads team in the first two rounds of play in Farmsville, Va

    FARMSVILLE, Va.- After day one of the Tina Barrett Longwood Invite, freshman Katie Dempsey finishes tied for 15th to lead the Dayton Flyers.

    Dempsey shot a consistant 79 on the first 18 holes and an 80 on the second round. Heading in to round three she is nine strokes behind the leader of the competition.

    Second on the team was senior Lindsey Greuter who shot an 85 in the first round and an 89 in the second round.

    Placing third on the team was senior Melissa Gaus who shot an 89 and 87 in the first two rounds of play. Freshman teamate, Paige Smith started off shooting a 96 and turned her play around in the second round shooting an 87.

    Rounding out the scoring for the Flyers was freshman Elaine English who ended the first two rounds shooting a 94 and 95.

    As a team, UD shot a 347 in round one and 343 in the second round for a combined score of 690.

    The Flyers contiue play on Wednesday at Poplar Hill Golf Club.
