WOMEN'S GOLF OPENS SEASON WITH FIFTH-PLACE FINISH AT MURRAY STATE
March 10, 2005 The University of Dayton women's golf team opened the spring season with a fifth-place performance at the Big River Lady Racer Classic Monday and Tuesday in Murray, KY. UD finished the 36-hole tournament with 721 total strokes at the par 72 Miller Golf Course. The Flyers carded a first round 349 to place fourth after the first day, but shot a final round 372 to drop to fifth-place on Tuesday. The overall team champion was the host Murray State (649), followed by Kentucky (659), Rend Lake (693), and Austin Peay State (717). Dayton Senior Carolyn Fuchs (Louisville, KY) and Junior Tiffany Ruhe (Ottawa, OH) finished tied for 21st place to complete the tournament with final scores of 178 (+34) to lead the flyers. Next for the Flyers was Senior Jen Edgin (Columbus, OH) who carded a 182 (+38) total, finishing tied for 26th place. She was followed by Sophomore Lindsey Greuter (Chardon, OH) in 31st place with a final score of 183 (+39), while fellow Sophomore Melissa Gaus (Noblesville, IN) rounded out the Dayton roster, finishing in 40th place with a 195 (+51). Individually, Murray State's Nikki Orazine took first place with a 12-over par score of 156. The Flyers return to action next at the Bellarmine Invitational, March 28th-29th, in Louisville, Kentucky. |
