GALLAGHER TIED FOR 4TH AFTER ROUND ONE OF UD FALL INVITE

KETTERING, Ohio - Junior Katie Gallagher shot an 82 to tie for fourth among individuals after round one of the 2008 UD Fall Invitational. Gallagher, who is the defending champion of the UD Fall Invitational, is just three strokes behind the lead as the Dayton B squad outplayed the Dayton A squad in the first round. Eastern Illinois is in the overall lead with a 327 team score while the Flyers' B squad is in fourth with a 345. Dayton's A team is in seventh with a 353. Battling cold temperatures and gusty winds, no individual in the 10-team field shot below par. Gallagher stayed in contention with nine pars on the afternoon. Behind Gallagher with a consistent round of 85 was sophomore Heather Grant. Making just her second appearance of the fall, Grant is tied for 14th place among individuals. Two Flyers, freshman Clara Ang and junior Paige Smith, each shot an 87 to lead the A-squad. Smith was one of four golfers to fire an eagle in first round play. Sophomore Ellen Ciacchini was one stroke behind with an 88 in round one and junior Cari DeAngelis fired a first-round 89 thank in part to shooting a 39 on the final nine holes of play. Junior Katie Dempsey, sophomore Megan Keating and freshman Heather Jorgensen each carded a 90 in round one. Junior Casey Peterson tallied a 91, while sophomore Julie Pouliquen added a 92 to round out the scoring. The final round of the UD Fall Invitational will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 28 from the NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio. |
