WOMEN'S GOLF TAKES NINTH, MEN SIXTH AT IPFW FALL CLASSIC

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Junior Lindsey Greuter took 13th overall as the University of Dayton women's golf team finished ninth at the IPFW Fall Classic Tuesday. On the men's said, freshman Rob Chappell fired a career-best 69 in the final round and took fifth place, leading the men to a sixth-place finish. For the women, Greuter posted rounds of 81, 76 and 80 en route to 237 for the tournament and tie for 15th-place finish. Danielle Hawksley finished 34th overall for the Flyers with a 257 (83-85-89). Melissa Gaus (263--93-86-84) and Michelle Borchers (273--90-95-88) completed the field for UD. The women shot a 341 on Tuesday and finished ninth overall with a 1030 score. The women's layout was played at par-71, 6,102-yards. Chappell carded rounds of 74, 70 and 69 for the two-day tournament at the Deer Track Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind. Tuesday's two-under par 69 helped Chappell jump from 18th overall after Monday's rounds into a tie for fifth with an even-par 213. Adam Myers shot a final-round 73 and finished tied for 21st overall with a 219 (77-69-73). Freshman Matthew Friend (223--72-74-77), freshman Nick Trubee (229--81-73-75) and freshman Mark Juve (232--79-75-78) rounded out the Flyers' team. Freshman Mitch Custenborder (227--72-78-77) and sophomore Chad Underwood (239--81-77-81) were playing as individuals. As a team, the men shot 294 Tuesday on the par-71, 6,582-yard layout and finished sixth with a 882 team score for three rounds. Both the men's and women's golf teams will return to action Oct. 24-25 at the Austin Peay Intercollegiate in Clarksville, Tenn. |
