Junior Cari DeAngelis continues her strong fall season and is tied for 11th after round one

    REDFORD, Mich. - Behind an 81 by sophomore Paige Smith the Dayton Flyers are in third after the first round of the Detroit Titans Invitational.

    Smith is 10th overall after carding a 42 on the front nine and a 39 on her final nine holes.

    Just one stroke behind in a tie for 11th were juniors Katie Dempsey and Cari DeAngelis each with an 82.

    Like Smith, Dempsey shot a 42 on her first nine holes, but a 40 on the back nine. DeAngelis bounced back after a 43 on her first nine holes of play to add a 39 in her final nine holes.

    Sophomore Julie Pouliquen tied for 14th after round one with an 84, while junior Katie Gallagher rounded out the scoring with a 91.

    Dayton shot 329 as a team and is in third out of four teams.

    The second and final round will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 7 from the Western Golf & Country Club in Redford, Mich.
