WAYNESVILLE, N.C. - The University of Dayton women's golf team finished 21st at the Wachovia-Great Smokies Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina University this weekend. Junior Melissa Gaus carded rounds of 76 and 77 to lead the Flyers with a 153 in the two-day event. UD shot a 641 as a team.

Gaus posted a 76 (+4) Saturday on the 5,828-yard, par-72 Waynesville Country Club. Sunday's round of 77 was good to place Gaus in a tie for 59th overall.

Junior Lindsey Greuter fired a two-round score of 160 (82-78) to finish in a tie for 93rd overall. Freshman Michelle Borchers (162--82-80), sophomore Laura Grande (166--86-80) and senior Melissa Juve (169--87-82) rounded out the Flyers in the field.

The host Catamounts were the tournament champions with a team score of 576. East Carolina University and Ohio University each shot a 581 to finish in a tie for second. Xavier University and the University of South Alabama comprised the top five.

UD returns to action Oct. 17 and 18 at the IPFW Fall Classic.
