    FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Behind a career-best, second place finish from junior Katie Dempsey, the Dayton Flyers placed in third as a team at the IPFW Fall Classic.

    Dempsey shot a second round 74 to finish the tournament with a 153 total, just one stroke behind the invitational champion.

    This is the second time in Dempsey's career she placed second at a tournament. Her previous second place finish came at the 2008 Ashland Invitational.

    Placing in eighth overall was junior Paige Smith who shot a second round 83. Smith completed the tournament with a 159 and also enjoyed the best finish of her Flyer career.

    Junior Cari DeAngelis tied for 15th with a second round 84 and completed the classic with a 166 total score. DeAngelis has finished among the Top 15 golfers in her previous two tournament appearances.

    Sophomore Julie Pouliquen carded rounds of 81 and 87 to tie for 22nd overall. Sophomore Ellen Ciacchini withdrew from play.

    Dayton shot 328 as a team in round two. After totaling a 318 on day one, UD finished just 11 strokes behind first place Chicago State with a 646 team total.

    The Flyers return to action on Oct. 6-7 at the Detroit Titans Invitational. The tournament will be held at the Western Golf & Country Club in Redford, Mich.
