FLYERS FINISH THE YOUNGSTOWN STATE INVITE IN SECOND PLACE
Sept. 15, 2008
HUBBARD, Ohio - Due to poor playing conditions, the Dayton Flyers finished the Youngstown State Invitational in second place after the second and final round was cancelled. The Flyers shot a team score of 327 thanks in part to sophomore Julie Pouliquen finishing in a tie for third. Pouliquen tallied a first round score of 80 scoring a 40 on both the front and back nine. Just one stroke behind was junior Katie Dempsey who placed tied for eighth with an 81. Dempsey shot a 40 on the front nine and a 41 on the back for her second consecutive Top 10 finish. Making her Flyer debut was freshman Heather Jorgensen who finished tied for 11th after shooting an 82 on Sunday. Juniors Paige Smith and Cari DeAngelis each shot an 83 and tied for 14th overall. Both shot a 41 on the first nine holes of play and both shot a 42 on the back nine. For DeAngelis, her 83 tied a career-best and the 14th place finish was her highest in her Flyer career. Freshman Clara Ang recorded an 84 and finished tied for 17th overall, while sophomore Ellen Ciacchini rounded out the scoring with a 90. Winds were gusting up to 40 miles per hour and play was suspended because of darkness on Sunday. Findlay and Humber finished up in the morning, before the coaches determined the course was unplayable for an early second-round start. This is the second year in a row UD has finished second at the YSU Invitational. The Flyers have finished in either first or second in five of the last eight tournaments played. Dayton continues the fall season at the IPFW Invitational on Monday, Sept. 29 and Tuesday, Sept. 30. The tournament will be held at the Deer Track Golf Course in Fort Wayne, Ind. |
