First Round Results Get Acrobat Reader

CHICAGO - The Dayton Flyers are picking up right where they left off from last season.

UD as a team is just two strokes behind at the Chicago State Invitational after round one. The Flyers shot a 324 and are in second place behind Eastern Illinois after 72 holes.

The Flyers, who won two tournaments during the 2007-08 season, are once again in contention for an invitational championship thanks to solid play from its top golfers.

Sophomore Julie Pouliquen shot a 77 and is in fourth after the first round. Pouliquen played consistently tallying a 38 on the front nine and a 39 on the back.

Not far behind was junior Katie Dempsey who shook off a slow start to fire a 79 and complete the first round in sixth overall. Dempsey shot a 41 after nine holes, but rallied to collect a 38 on her final nine holes of play.

Junior Paige Smith also finished in the Top 10 after carding an 82. Smith also got things going late after shooting a 43 on her first nine holes and a 39 on the back.

Freshman Clara Ang made her UD debut and shot an 86, while junior Katie Gallagher recorded an 88 in her season opener.

Among the individuals, sophomore Heather Grant shot an 87, while sophomore Megan Keating was one stroke behind with an 88.

Dayton is back in action on Monday, Sept. 8 to complete the Chicago State Invitational at the Lost Marsh Golf Course in Hammond, Ind.
