WOMEN'S GOLF TAKES SIXTH AT CAA CHAMPIONSHIP
April 18, 2005 HOT SPRINGS, Va. - Melissa Juve and Jennifer Edgin carded a pair of final round 80's to help the University of Dayton women's golf team to a sixth place finish at the 2005 Colonial Athletic Association Championship Sunday in Hot Springs, Va. Juve led the Flyers individually with a 252 over three round on the par-72, 6,000-yard Old Course at the Homestead Resort and finished tied for 22nd. Edgin, who opened the Championship with an 84 and 89, finished strong for UD with her low-round of the season to place in a tied for 24th overall. Juve's eight-over par final round in ideal scoring conditions Sunday also bettered her two previous rounds of 87 and 85, which came in less-than-ideal conditions. Tiffany Ruhe also bettered her rounds as the tournament progressed and finished 30th with a 259 (88-87-84). Carolyn Fuchs carded a 264 (82-90-92) and finished 32nd while Melissa Gaus posted a 302 (97-103-102) and finished 39th. James Madison University won the CAA title for the third-straight year and secured an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. The Dukes, who shot a three-round score of 923 (304-316-303), held off a final-round charge by both Xavier (930) and UNC-Wilmington (930) to capture the title. JMU's Kiley Bishop (224) won a three-way playoff to take the individual medalist honors. Bishop defeated UNCW's Becky Berzonski and Michelle Jarmon on the fourth playoff hole. The UD women will be in action again Tuesday at the Kruempelman Cup hosted by Northern Kentucky University.
