ATLANTIC 10 ANNOUNCES OPPONENTS FOR UD MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
April 18, 2007 PHILADELPHIA - Although the 2006-07 college basketball season ended less than a month ago, fans will at least know what Atlantic 10 teams will be coming to their building next year. The Atlantic 10 released the regular-season home and away conference opponents for men's and women's basketball on Wednesday. With the dates and times still to be determined, the Dayton Flyers will play one home and one road game against Xavier, Saint Louis and Fordham on the men's side. The UD women's basketball team will play every program in the A-10 once during the regular season and Xavier twice in a home-and-home series. "Once again, I believe our conference is one of the strongest in the country," said UD men's basketball head coach Brian Gregory. "This is definitely a league that has multiple postseason quality teams. With that being said, with our pod of Saint Louis, Xavier and Fordham, I believe we're playing three teams that have the ability to be Atlantic 10 champions." In 2007-08, UD men's basketball will host A-10 opponents Xavier, Saint Louis, Fordham, Charlotte, Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph's and Temple at UD Arena. Atlantic 10 road games for the Flyers include Xavier, Saint Louis, Fordham, George Washington, La Salle, Duquesne, Massachusetts and Richmond. Dayton women's basketball will have A-10 home contests against Xavier, Charlotte, Rhode Island, Richmond, St. Bonaventure, Saint Louis and Temple. A-10 road games include Xavier, Duquesne, Fordham, George Washington, La Salle, Massachusetts and Saint Joseph's. "I think the ability to play Xavier twice is a good thing for us and we have to rise to the challenge," said Jim Jabir, UD women's basketball head coach. "I like our home schedule this year in the conference. We have some really good teams coming in and hopefully, we can continue to improve in the league." Last year Dayton men's basketball played home-and-home games against Xavier, Saint Louis and Charlotte, while the women's program just played Xavier twice. On the men's side, Dayton returns three starters (including two-time All-Atlantic 10 selection Brian Roberts) and its top two scorers (Roberts and A-10 Sixth Man of the Year Charles Little). UD finished the 2006-07 season with a 19-12 record, and ranked No. 75 nationally in the RPI. Coach Jabir's squad finished last year 12-19 overall, but returns four starters, including nine of its top 10 scorers. UD had 15 of its 29 games decided by single digits including four one-point games last season. The complete schedule for both teams will be released in early September at www.DaytonFlyers.com.
