OAKLAND NAMED TO ATLANTIC 10 ALL-CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM

PHILADELPHIA - Senior forward Nikki Oakland was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Championship Team Monday after leading the University of Dayton women's basketball team to just its second ever appearance in the A-10 Semifinals. Oakland averaged 13.0 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per game including double-doubles in each of Dayton's victories over Massachusetts and Charlotte. The 2007-2008 A-10 Second Team selection also shot 45.2 percent from the field and made 10-of-12 shots from the free throw line while pulling down eight of 31 rebounds from the offensive glass. The senior led Dayton to a 57-51 come-from behind victory over Massachusetts in the A-10 First Round on Friday with 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field to go along with a career-high tying 13 rebounds. She followed with 13 points and 12 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season in a 77-53 rout of Charlotte while becoming the 17th player in Dayton women's basketball history to join the 1,000-Point Club. The forward finished with six points and six rebounds in 33 minutes of play against A-10 Regular Season Champion Temple on Sunday. Dayton is the third most improved team in the nation this season with a 25-8 overall record after winning just 12 games last season. The Flyers tied for fourth in the Atlantic 10 standings after defeating A-10 Regular Season Champion Temple once and A-10 Tournament Champion Xavier twice during the regular season. UD also tallied a school-record 16 game-winning streak that included wins over NCAA Tournament bound San Diego as well as Indiana of the Big Ten Conference, Clemson of the ACC and Cincinnati from the Big East Conference. The Flyers earned their first ever votes in the AP Top 25 Poll this season along the way. UD will learn its postseason tournament selection on Monday March 17.
