PHILADELPHIA - After leading Dayton to the third biggest improvement in the nation over the regular season, Flyer Head Coach Jim Jabir was tabbed as the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year Wednesday. Three other Flyers were also honored as Nikki Oakland was a Second Team All-Conference selection, Kristin Daugherty was an All-Rookie Team pick and Karah Cloxton was named to the Academic All-Conference Team.

Jabir mentored the Flyers to a modern-program record 23-7 regular season ledger including an 11-5 mark in games decided by 10 points or less. Dayton will be the fifth seed in this weekend's Atlantic 10 Championship after being picked eighth in the conference's preseason coaches poll. UD has improved by 11.5 victories over last season on the strength of a school-record 16-game winning streak that was the longest in the nation at one point. The Flyers earned their first ever votes in the AP Top 25 Poll this season as they were listed in two different weeks. The honor is the third Coach of the Year award for Jabir in his 20 seasons as a collegiate head coach and his first at Dayton.

After not being selected to any of the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference Teams, Oakland was tabbed as a Second Team All A-10 selection. She is one of just two players in the conference to rank among the Top 15 in scoring (11th, 13.9 ppg), rebounding (seventh, 7.7 rpg), field-goal percentage (sixth, .517) and blocked shots (eighth, 1.23 bpg). The native of San Diego, CA also tallied nine double-doubles which was the fourth highest total in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Oakland was a two-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Week and enters the weekend just 25 points shy of joining the 1,000-Point Club at Dayton.

Daugherty had the best season of any Flyer in over a decade and was tabbed as the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week three times. She finished the regular season sixth in single-season scoring and seventh in rebounding amongst freshmen all-time at UD. The native of Fresno, Ohio reached double figures in scoring 12 times including a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds against Atlantic 10 Regular Season Champion Temple. Daugherty started 27 of 30 regular season games including 13 of 14 in conference play.

Cloxton is in the midst of one of the best seasons for any point guard in Dayton history as she holds the career and single-season program records for assist-to-turnover ratio. She also ranks among the Top 10 nationally in the category while ranking second on the team in three-point shooting with 26 makes from long range. The native of Winfield, WV holds a 4.0 GPA and earned Second Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors earlier this season. She will attend medical school at either Marshall or West Virginia following graduation in May.

Fifth-seeded Dayton will face 12th-seeded Massachusetts in the Opening Round of the 2008 Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championship Friday at 2 p.m. ET in Philadelphia at SJU Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse. The winner will advance to play fourth-seeded Charlotte on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET. Fans can follow the action with Gametracker, FREE Live Audio and Live Video (pay-per-view) at www.DaytonFlyers.com.
