DAYTON, OH - The University of Dayton women's basketball team hosts St. Bonaventure Friday at 7:00 p.m. in the next-to-last home game of the 2004-05 campaign. The game can be seen in the Dayton area on Time Warner TV. Sunday, UD hosts Richmond in the final home game for senior Emily Williams. Dayton (11-14 overall; 5-9 Atlantic 10) is coming off 69-58 loss at now No. 16 (AP and Coaches') Temple on Sunday. The Flyers upset bid was denied by the Owls, who were No. 17 in the AP last week (No. 19 Coaches). Dayton became the first team since December 21 to lead Temple at the half, as UD held the Owls to just seven field goals (7-of-21) in the first half for a 27-26 lead at the break. Cara Wright posted her third-straight game with 20 or more points and 10 or more rebounds, finishing with 20 points and 14 rebounds for her 11th double-double of the year. Jennifer Strong added 18 points on seven-of-nine shooting, including four-of-five from three-point land. The St. Bonaventure Bonnies (9-16; 4-10 A-10) also gave Temple a tough time last week before falling 63-53 in a home contest with the Owls. On Sunday, Dayton hosts Richmond (20-5; 11-3 A-10 entering Friday's game at Xavier) on Senior Day at noon. The game will air regionally on Atlantic 10 Television. The final weekend of the regular season will clear the murky A-10 Tournament seeding picture. Currently, only Temple as locked up its seed by clinching the A-10 East and the #1 overall seed in March 4-7's Atlantic 10 Championship. Dayton can finish anywhere from fourth through sixth in the A-10 West, as UD is tied with La Salle for fourth at 5-9 entering the weekend, one game up on Duquesne, which is 4-10. Dayton split the season series with both La Salle and Duquesne (the first tie-breaker in a two-team tie). Xavier, George Washington and Richmond are all tied for first with 11-3 league marks. For the Flyers to finish fourth, UD would have to be one-game ahead of La Salle in the standings because La Salle owns the tie-breakers. The Flyers first round opponent could be any of five teams log-jammed in the East. After Temple at 15-0, Massachusetts sits second with a 6-9 league mark, followed by Rhode Island (5-10) and Fordham (5-10), Saint Joseph's and St. Bonaventure (both 4-10). |
