The UD women's basketball team hosts the Massachusetts Minutewomen Friday at UD Arena in a 7:00 p.m. tip-off. The Flyers are 3-0 versus the Atlantic 10 East this season with wins over Saint Joseph's, Rhode Island and Fordham. On Sunday, the Flyers fell at George Washington despite double-doubles from Jennifer Strong and Cara Wright (pictured). Dayton is 10-11 on the year and 4-6 in the Atlantic 10. The Flyers are tied for fourth in the A-10 West with La Salle, whom the Flyers meet on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. at the Arena. Massachusetts is 12-9 overall, 5-5 in the Atlantic 10 and second in the A-10 East behind No. 20 Temple. On Sunday, at George Washington, Strong scored 16 points to go with 11 rebounds while Wright added 17 points and 11 boards. But the pair of double-doubles was not enough as Dayton fell 71-59 at the Smith Center. GAME NOTES Both Cara Wright and Jennifer Strong posted double-doubles at George Washington. Strong finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds for her first of the season, while Wright added 17 points and 11 boards for her eighth double-double of the year. Freshman guard Kiki Lund scored a career-high 10 points against George Washington Sunday to go with four rebounds and two assists. Junior guard Terri Ramsey set a new career-high in points with 14 and rebounds with seven against Duquesne. Against Fordham, she tied her previous UD highs in points (11) and assists (six) and also had four steals and four rebounds. In her last six games, Jennifer Strong is averaging 15.8 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game and is shooting .542 from three-point range (13-of-24). Dayton's 10.5 game turnaround from last year's record (seven-games in the win column and 14-games in the loss column thus far) is the second-largest turnaround in the NCAA from last year. Only Robert Morris is ahead of UD. The Flyers came back from down 23 points at the half against Duquesne, out-scoring the Dukes 42-18 in the second half for a 55-54 win. Dayton forced 16 second-half turnovers, while committing just four themselves. Dayton is 3-0 versus the Atlantic 10 East so far. The Flyers are 9-1 when scoring 60 or more points, falling for the first time with a 67-61 loss at La Salle. www.DaytonFlyers.com Jennifer Strong scored a career-high 23 points at Xavier. She had tied her previous career-high with 21 points to lead the Flyers to a 63-50 win over Fordham. Strong also set her season high in rebounds with seven at Fordham. Cara Wright recored her seventh double-double in UD's win over Duquesne with 12 points and 10 rebounds. She just missed a double-double at Xavier, finishing with eight points and 10 rebounds in 27 minutes. Freshman forward Brittany Holterman was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week (Jan 15-22) after she scored 12 of her career-high 14 points in the second half at La Salle while adding eight rebounds. Six of her boards came on the offensive glass. Holterman added six rebounds on Sunday at Fordham. The Flyers are 8-4 when Jennifer Strong scores eight or more points and 2-7 when she's held to seven points or less. Dayton is 8-2 when Emily Williams scores eight or more points, and 7-4 when Cara Wright hits nine points or more. The Flyers have won all eight games in which they've had more free throws than their opponent, and are 2-11 when the opposition gets to the line more. Angela Cape was one-off her career high in assists with three against Fordham. The junior center was one of four Flyers in double-figures with 10 points. UD's 79 rebounds this season in a win over Detroit is the highest total in Atlantic 10 history and among the NCAA's top performances ever. |
