DAYTON WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TAKES ON XAVIER THURSDAY

The UD Women's basketball team visits the Cintas Center Thursday for an Atlantic 10 showdown with Xavier at 7:00 p.m. The Flyers (9-9 overall; 3-4 A-10) will look to knock off the Musketeers (12-5; 6-0), who are in first in the A-10 West. Although the Flyers lead the all-time series 28-18, the Musketeers have won four-straight, including this season's first meeting, 64-51, on January 3 at UD Arena. The Flyers are 7-4 this season in away games, and coming off a road win at Fordham, 63-50, on Sunday behind 21 points from Jennifer Strong. The Flyers are led by senior guard Emily Williams (10.6 PPG) and junior forward, and Lakota West grad Cara Wright (10.0 PPG, 7.3 RPG). Xavier's Tara Boothe (18.1 PPG, 7.9 RPG) leads the Musketeers, while Miranda Green (11.0 PPG) sparked X's win at UD with 18 points. Dayton hosts Duquesne on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the Flyers' first game at UD Arena in 27 days. GAME NOTES Jennifer Strong tied her career-high with 21 points to lead the Flyers to a 63-50 win over Fordham Sunday. She also scored 21 in the 2003-2004 season against Texas Pan-American. Strong also set her season high in rebounds with seven. Junior guard Terri Ramsey tied her UD-highs in points (11) and assists (six) in the Flyers' win at Fordham. She also had four steals and four rebounds. Freshman forward Brittany Holterman was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week (Jan 15-22) after she scored 12 of her career-high 14 points in the second half at La Salle while adding eight rebounds. Six of her boards came on the offensive glass. Holterman added six rebounds on Sunday at Fordham. Freshman guard Kiki Lund set a career-high with eight points to go with four assists against La Salle. She also tied her career-high in rebounds while playing 19 minutes. Angela Cape was one-off her career high in assists with three against Fordham on Sunday. The junior center was one of four Flyers in double-figures with 10 points. The Flyers held an 18-7 edge over La Salle in offensive rebounds. Holterman (six) nearly had as many offensive boards as the entire Explorer team (seven). Junior forward Cara Wright scored 11 points and had 10 rebounds on Sunday versus Rhode Island for her sixth double-double of the year. She recorded her fifth at Saint Joseph's a week earlier with a career-high 29 points to go with 11 rebounds. Sophomore forward Jennifer Strong set a season-high with 17 points in UD's win over Rhode Island. Emily Williams also chipped in 17 versus Rhode Island. The senior guard was one of three Flyers in double-figures. Freshman forward Nikki Oakland also set a career-high in points at Saint Joe's, finishing with nine points and five rebounds. Katie Butler was 3-for-5 from three-point range en route to 18 points against Richmond. Dayton is 9-1 when scoring 58 or more points, falling for the first time with a 67-61 loss at La Salle. Seven of the Flyers nine wins have come on the road, with only one at UD Arena (UD beat Rhode Island at the Frericks Center). The Brittany Holterman tallied 11 points while pulling down seven boards against Richmond. She was part of a UD bench that accounted for 33 of the Flyers' 57 points on the night. She added seven points and four rebounds versus GW. UD's 79 rebounds this season in a win over Detroit is the highest total in Atlantic 10 history and among the NCAA's top performances ever.
