Head Coach Jim Jabir "I don't think we were playing really hard in the first half. We scored a lot of points in the first half. I thought our defense was really poor. We weren't getting over to people and helping like we usually do. I was disappointed in our defense intensity. At the end of the first half though we held them to one point in the last nine minutes and so we did a much better job." "I think our defense ran the break and we got easy shots out of the break, we got lay-ups and jump shots and all those things matter. Any good team -- your defense is going to spark your offense." "I didn't tell her (Kristen Daugherty) to put up shots, I threatened her. I told her if she didn't shoot the ball then I wasn't going to play her. I think her mom had the same problem when she played in high school. She's such a good kid she doesn't want to alienate anyone and so she's really unselfish to the point where she needs to understand she's our best offensive player and she needs to score. When she gets it, she has no idea how good she can be." "Statistically if you look at Central Michigan in the second half of their last six games they've almost doubled their scoring output. So they're a second half team. They don't quit, they constantly fight. I knew it was going to be a battle." "Last year if you told us we had 18 turnovers I would have thrown a party because we were averaging 24, but this year 18 isn't good enough." "Again, I'm very proud that we won anything; it's a new experience for us. We have a bunch of kids who have bought into the program and adapted into the culture we have. It's satisfying to see it work. I'm very proud of that. There are people who watch the game and see good execution. We have good kids that work hard and that's what you want." Nikki Oakland "I can't do it without all my teammates everyone looks high and low. They're great girls and I love them." Kristen Daugherty "I think we started pushing the ball at the end of the first half and everyone was looking for each other. I was open on the backside and hit some shots and got their confidence up and everyone just began to click together. I think once we were able to slow down things started to change." "It's an awesome feeling (to have won 13 straight games). We're busting it in practice and want to keep working harder everyday. This is a great program and we're definitely on the rise. It was a great win today and we hope to get another at St. Francis." |
