FLYER WOMEN REBOUND THEIR WAY TO AN 87-55 VICTORY OVER DETROIT

DAYTON, Ohio - Junior forward Cara Wright pulled down a career-high 20 rebounds as the University of Dayton women's basketball team cruised to an 87-55 non-conference victory over Detroit on Saturday night at UD Arena. With the win, Dayton improved to 5-4 on the year with its first home win of the season while visiting Detroit fell to 1-7 overall. Wright (West Chester, OH) recorded her Atlantic 10 leading fourth double-double of the season with a career-high 20 rebounds to go along with game-highs of 14 points and a career-best four assists. Wright's 20 rebounds are the fifth most ever by a Flyer in a single-game and the highest total since 1983. She is also just the seventh player in school history to pull down at least 20 boards. Classmate Angela Cape (Warren, OH) collected 13 rebounds of her own while scoring eight points as Dayton out-rebounded Detroit 79-25. Junior Terry Ramsey (Tacoma, WA) scored 11 points and four Flyers added nine each. Junior Lyndsey DeWitt (Upper Sandusky, OH) and freshman Ashley Armstrong (Beloit, OH) set new season-highs for scoring while senior Emily Williams (Beavercreek, OH) and junior Jennifer Strong (Warrensville, OH) also scored nine points while matching Wright's four assists. Dayton opened with a 12-0 run before visiting Detroit got on the board with a jumper by Lauren Jergens at the 15:47 mark. During the spurt, UD was led by five points from Ramsey, three from Strong and two each by Williams and Cape. The Flyers would answer back with a layup by Williams off a feed by Strong on a back door play just 66 seconds later as Dayton would outscore the Titans 36-21 for the remainder of the first half including a 13-5 run over the final 6:16 to take a 48-23 halftime advantage. Wright paced UD during the final stretch in the first half with five points followed by Cape with four, Williams with three and Strong with two. Dayton out shot Detroit 54.3 percent to 23.1 percent from the field as the Flyers hit 3-of-7 (42.9 %) three-point attempts and 7-of-13 (53.8 %) free throw shots. UD also dominated UDM in rebounding (38-12), second chance points (19-1) and points in the paint (30-6). Wright had 13 points, 11 rebounds and three assists in the first 20 minutes to lead the Flyers. Ramsey added eight points while Cape had six rebounds and Strong dished out three assists of her own for Dayton. UD continued its dominance into the second half as the Flyers built the lead to as many as 32 points. DeWitt scored all of her nine points in the second half to lead Dayton down the stretch. She was followed by Armstrong with six second-half points and four each by Strong, Williams and Katie Butler (Findlay, OH). The Flyers controlled the glass again as they outrebounded the Titans 41-13 as Wright pulled down nine rebounds and Cape had five in the final 20 minutes. UD will take the next 10 days off before traveling to Miami, Fla. For the four-team Florida International Classic.
