Head Coach Jim Jabir "We got cold and tired by the end of the first half. I just went into the locker and I told them we are never going to shoot 22% again and I believe in you and take it to them. Just fake and lay it in...and they did, they relaxed. They've been responding all year. It's been a lot of fun coaching this group." "I think we were kind of worried about getting hit. We were kind of laying back rather than attacking them. We were expecting to get fouled, and we were intimidated. I don't know why. But then second half we went at them and we scored and we spread them out and we really did some great things." (In regards to the loss to Indiana last year) "This says a lot about where we have come. Last year they used us. We played with them the first seven minutes and then they just crushed us. We were all over the gym, and undisciplined. At half time today I think we had five turnovers; for the game we ended with just 12. That is unheard of. Last year we were averaging 22 or 23. To go against that zone and that pressure with only 12 is really great." "We went on the road, we dropped our first two. Then we put on some wins. We played three great games in New Mexico ...went 1-2 but felt really good about ourselves. It is contagious, and it's all about confidence. These girls come to practice everyday, and I don't have tell yell at them about focusing or working hard, they just do it. It shows, and it is great. "That has been the fun part about coaching too. Every night it is someone different. Nikki (Oakland) has 32 points one night, then Kiki (Lund) and Kristin Daugherty have big shots tonight. We have contribution from so many different people." "Kiki is a great shooter. She started out cold...kind of tentative like we all were, but then she came on and really got us going." "This winning streak is completely because of our team. This year we actually have a team -we rotate, we stunt, we talk, we communicate. We do everything as a team on and off the court. Our winning streak is totally because of that. I know that my teammates have my back, and I have theirs." "My biggest problem is probably just bringing energy, but somebody different will step up every night. During the game today one girl stepped up and in the next five minutes somebody else stepped up. It is awesome." "The difference between this year and last year is that we have that edge. We have that swagger. We are going to give it everything we can. We are going to win. We are going to end up with a `W'." "There is a great chemistry between everybody. The seniors have really stepped up, taken charge and shown the team what needs to be done. We are clicking really well, and winning makes it that much better." "My mom was my head coach, and my dad was the assistant. It was kind of a family affair in high school. The coaches here have done a great job helping me develop and getting accustomed to how things are supposed to be done." |
