DAYTON, Ohio - Homestanding Dayton outscored Indiana by 11 in the second half to take its winning streak to seven consecutive games with a 67-59 non-conference women's basketball contest at UD Arena on Wednesday.

Senior Nikki Oakland scored a team-high 17 points, including 13 in the second half, and pulled down nine rebounds to help the Flyers improve to 7-2 on the year.

Kristin Daugherty and Brittany Holterman added 12 points a piece for UD. Daugherty scored seven points in the first half and collected six rebounds overall. Holterman added eight boards of her own including three from the offensive glass.

Kiki Lund rounded out a group of four Flyers to reach double figures in scoring with 10 points on the strength of 3-for-8 shooting from three-point range.

Dayton connected on 7-of-15 shots from beyond the arc while Indiana was 0-for-9 from long range. The Flyers also extended the longest active streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference to 196 consecutive games with a made three-point shot.

UD tallied 18 assists on just 24 made baskets including nine helpers from senior Karah Cloxton and two from classmate Kathy Guin. Sophomore Kendel Ross also came off the bench to tally three assists.

Dayton made up for a 34-22 deficit at points in the paint by holding a 16-6 advantage in fast break points and a 16-8 lead in bench points.

The Hoosiers were led by junior Whitney Thomas who scored a double-double, with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Thomas was also a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line in 39 minutes of play.

On a day that saw the first snowfall of the year in Dayton, the Flyers came out cold in the first half completing just 9-of-40 shots from the field. However, UD shot 60.0 percent in the second half and were paced by a flurry of scoring that saw it lead by as many as 14 at one point.

The first half was a back-and-forth battle, with neither team able to build a significant lead, with two lead changes and three ties. The Flyers took their first and only lead of the half at 11:47 off of a Kiki Lund free throw, to give UD a 9-8 lead.

The Hoosiers immediately regained the lead on their next trip down the court, and continued to push the lead for the remainder of the half. Indiana's biggest lead of the game came from a Linn Haylie jump shot with 2:07 in the half. The Flyers would add four more points and enter the locker room trailing by three, 24-21.

The beginning of the second half looked much like the first. The teams exchanged leads and struggled to put together a significant run.

With 15:45 on the clock, Whitney Thomas sank two free throws after being fouled by Oakland, giving the Hoosiers a 34-30 lead. From there the Flyers went on a 12-0 run, sparked by a Daugherty three-point-play.

At the end of the run the Flyers had a 42-34 lead, and wouldn't look back for the remainder of the game. UD reached a 14-point lead twice and never let Indiana get closer than six.

The Hoosier made a late run to pull within six in the final minute of play, but a 4-for-4 effort by Kathy Guin at the free throw line in the last 33 seconds would put the game out of reach for IU and clinch a 67-59 Dayton victory.

The Flyers return to action Saturday, Dec. 8 in Philadelphia. Dayton will face Drexel at 1 p.m. ET in a game that can be followed with Gametracker on www.DaytonFlyers.com.
