WOMEN'S BASKETBALL IMPROVES TO 3-1 WITH WIN AT TOLEDO, 62-50

TOLEDO, OHIO - Cara Wright and Katie Butler each tied their career-highs with 15 points as the University of Dayton women's basketball team won its third-straight road game, 62-50, over the University of Toledo, Saturday evening at Savage Hall.

Both Butler and Wright scored 11 in the second half. Butler was seven-of-eight shooting, while Wright connected on seven-of-10 from the field.

Junior guard Terri Ramsey and senior guard Emily Williams added nine points each. Wright and Williams each led UD with six rebounds. Ashley Armstrong chipped in five rebounds and five points.

Dayton opened up to an 8-4 lead on threes by Jennifer Strong and Williams, followed by a jumper in the paint from Wright. Toledo then scored five-straight to take a 9-8 lead before the Flyers answered on a jumper by Williams and bucket inside by Wright for a 16-13 lead with 8:20 to go in the first.

After a three from Crystal Young tied the game for Toledo, Williams scored in transition to put the Flyers back up top. But back-to-back three-pointers by Olivia Terry put the Rockets ahead, 22-18 with 5:02 to go in the half.

The two teams traded free-throws before Butler and Nikki Oakland ran a give-and-go that pulled Dayton within one at 24-23, but the Rockets closed out the half with a pair of free-throws and an `and-one' from Karin Hoogendam.

Dayton scored the first five points of the second half on a bucket by Strong and a three from Ramsey. Ramsey followed seconds later with another three as UD took a 33-31 lead. Wright scored seven of Dayton's next nine points to put Dayton up 42-37. After Toledo pulled it to 45-41, the Flyers went on an 8-0 run as Butler scored four-straight baskets.

The Flyers held the Rockets to just nine points in the final 12:18, cruising home to the 62-50 victory.

Dayton improves to 3-1 on the season, while Toledo falls to 1-2. UD owned the glass, out-rebounding Toledo 42-29.

Young led Toledo with a career-high 13 points.

The Flyers are back in action on Wednesday, December 1, at Cincinnati in a 7:00 p.m.
