AKRON, Ohio - Kathy Guin had an assist and the game-winning three-point basket in the final 40 seconds of the game as Dayton tallied a 58-57 comeback win at Akron on Sunday. With the win, UD improved to 4-3 overall and will return to action on Thursday at Tennessee-Martin in a 7:00 p.m. ET tipoff.

Guin finished with just five points and four assists on the afternoon, but dished out an assist on a layup by Brittany Holterman with 40 seconds left to knot the score. Then after Akron took the lead on a pair of free throws, Guin came down the court and drilled a three-pointer with 8.2 left on the clock to give UD a one-point victory.

Two Flyers reached double figures in scoring. Senior Jennifer Strong led all players with 19 points while shooting 4-for-9 from three-point range. Holterman, a junior forward, shot 5-for-5 from the field to finish with 10 points to go along with four steals, three rebounds and two assists.

Classmate Nikki Oakland pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds as UD held a 39-36 advantage on the glass.

Dayton also converted on 16-of-21 (.762) free throw attempts on the afternoon including 7-of-10 by Ashley Armstrong.

Dayton entered the locker room at halftime down by just two points despite a first half that saw both teams shoot less than 25 percent from the field. The Flyers trailed by as many as six with 5:17 left in the first half as UD made just two field goals over the final 15:18 before halftime. However, Dayton converted on 6-of-8 free throw attempts over the final 4:47 and added a trey from Strong to pull to within a basket at 21-19 at halftime.

Holterman led the Flyers with six points while shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from the field in the first half. Strong added five points while Oakland collected six rebounds for Dayton, which held a 22-21 edge on the glass. Armstrong converted 4-of-6 free throws to lead UD on a 6-of-9 effort overall during the first 20 minutes.

After Akron jumped out to a 26-19 lead to begin the second half, UD went on an 8-2 run over the next 1:58 to close the margin to just one. Armstrong broke for a layup along the baseline off a feed from Oakland then Strong followed with two straight three-pointers as Dayton trailed 28-27 with 15:49 remaining.

The Zips stretched their lead out to eight at 50-42 at the 5:23 mark behind seven points from Jessie Crooks. Dayton struggled to get any closer until Strong hit a trey with 3:34 left and a long jumper with 1:31 remaining. On the next inbound pass, Holterman stole the ball and converted a layup to make it a 55-53 Flyer deficit with 1:21 left.

Down by two with 40 seconds remaining, Guin took the ball around a screen and drove down the left side of the paint. She then dished to a wide-open Holterman on the right block who put in her second straight layup to tie the score at 55-55.

Akron took the lead back on a pair of free throws by Sarah Tokodi with 18.7 left, but Dayton came down the court without using a timeout to setup for a final shot. Guin dribbled around the screen again, but pulled up for a long range shot that found the bottom of the rim as UD earned its first lead since the 16:47 mark of the first half and held on to win 58-57.
