DAYTON, Ohio - Senior Jennifer Strong scored a game-high 16 points and added six rebounds as the Dayton Flyers defeated the Drexel Dragons, 62-46.

Junior Nikki Oakland recorded 10 points and five rebounds as the Flyers (3-3) won their home opener for the second consecutive season.

Dayton's defense came up big against Drexel. UD held the Dragons to 28 percent shooting from the floor and caused 19 turnovers. In addition, the Flyers out rebounded Drexel 41-38 and collected seven steals as a team.

On the offensive end, Dayton shot 44 percent from the floor and hit seven three-point baskets.

The Flyers had a 31-19 lead at halftime and opened with a 6-0 run to extend the advantage. Dayton would continue to convert on the offensive end and built up their lead by 22 points with 11:09 remaining.

Junior Brittany Holterman scored nine points on 4-of-8 shooting from the floor and junior Karah Cloxton dished out seven assists.

On its home court, UD used a fast-paced style of offense to attack the Dragons' defense. The Flyers scored 20 fast break points against Drexel and held a 28-18 advantage with points in the paint.

The Dayton bench came up big as well with 23 points. Junior Kathy Guin led the way with eight points, while sophomore Marie Rosche added five points and three rebounds.
