Box Score

AUSTIN, Texas - Competing against one of top teams in the nation Sunday evening, the University of Dayton women's basketball team (0-2) fell to nationally ranked Old Dominion (2-0), 70-58, at the Frank Erwin Center in day two of the World Vision Classic. Freshman Justine Raterman earned the first double-double of her career with 27 points and 15 boards.

In 39 minutes of action, Raterman connected on 11-of-21 shots from the field and went 2-of-5 from three point range to lead all scorers. The Flyer rookie also tied for a game-high four blocks and tallied two steals.

Sophomore Kristin Daugherty also finished strong with 21 points, four boards, and two steals in the contest.

It was a close game throughout and the contest featured two ties and six lead changes, all of which took place in the second half. The battle of the boards finished in an even tie as both teams finished with 43 apiece.

The Flyers shot just 33.3 percent (22-of-66) for the game, including 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from long range.

Three of ODU's players reached double figures. Jessica Canady had 23 points and eight boards. Jasmine Parker contributed with 13 points, five boards, and three steals, while Tiffany Green finished with a double-double of 15 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Monarchs who went 26-for-69 (42 percent) from the field.

ODU opened up with the lead draining two straight baskets until freshman Justine Raterman netted a jumper at the 17:35 mark to get UD on board.

Daugherty connected on free throws to put two more up, but Canaday kept coming on strong scoring eight of ODU's first 10 points.

The Monarchs began to pull away on an 11-0 spurt over the course of three and a half minutes.

But, Dayton began fighting back and Patrice Lalor netted a mid-range jumper to score the team's first points in nearly four minutes with 8:47 left to play.

On the next time down, Casey Nance followed it up with a jumper to close the gap, 21-12 with 8:02 remaining.

The Flyers kept it going pulling within three points after a hot-shooting Raterman scored 12 points in a little over four minutes. Dayton closed the margin 32-29, but ODU had the advantage headed into the break.

Raterman finished the first frame with 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field and also grabbed an impressive nine boards to lead UD.

The score would remain close in the second stanza as Dayton came out battling.

Raterman continued to light it up in the first four minutes of play connecting on shots from the line and also netting a jumper. A three by the rookie Flyer at 16:09 caused ODU's coach to call a time out as Dayton brought it within one point, 38-37.

The Flyers took the lead after Daugherty connected on a shot from downtown to give UD its first advantage of the game 40-38 with 13:18 on the clock.

From that point the teams traded baskets and the lead, but Old Dominion would edge the score in the final nine minutes of the game on a 19-5 run, eventually defeating the Flyers 70-58.
