DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton Flyer women's basketball team competed in the annual Red & Blue Scrimmage, showcasing the 2008-2009 basketball program before it tips off the season on the road at Texas in November.

The Flyers scrimmaged against members of the practice squad. UD shot .500 from beyond the arc knocking down 4-of-8 attempts in three point range. The Flyers also converted for 66 percent of their attempts at the charity stripe.

"I really like our mix. I think we are capable of anything. I am not discounting anything this year. I don't see why we can't be better than last year," head coach Jim Jabir said. "We have to stay healthy because we're not very deep. We just have to continue to be hungry, work hard and get better every day."

Dayton was paced offensively by sophomore captain Kristin Daugherty and newcomer De'Sarae Chambers who both notched six points in the scrimmage. Chambers was 2-of-2 from three-point range, while Daugherty knocked down her only attempt from beyond the arc. Junior Kendel Ross tallied one three-pointer for the Flyers.

Freshman Casey Nance led UD with three rebounds on Saturday. Versailles, Ohio native Justine Raterman added two points for the Flyers after going 1-for-3 from the field.

"I felt like we did pretty well. There are a lot of things we still have to work on and we couldn't really get into the flow of things because of the lack of time," freshman Justine Raterman said. "I think we are getting better each week."

The Flyers will face-off against the Ohio Legends in exhibition play on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 5:30 p.m. as part of an exhibition double-header with men's basketball at UD Arena. Tickets for Flyer women's basketball are currently for sale in the UD Arena Ticket Office, call (937) 229-4433.
