FLYERS GO COLD AT ST. BONVENTURE, 70-63

ST. BONAVENTURE, NY - Visiting Dayton shot just 2-for-11 from three-point range in a 70-63 loss at St. Bonaventure on Friday. With the loss, UD falls to 8-14 overall and 3-4 in the Atlantic 10. UD shot 41.0 percent from the field overall, but connected on just 2-of-11 shots from beyond the arc while the homestanding Bonnies hit on 6-of-13 shots from long range. Dayton led at points the paint (32-20), bench points (16-5) and rebounding (39-35) as well as offensive rebounds (13-9), but could not make up for a 23-14 deficit in points off turnovers. Senior Jennifer Strong led all players with 18 points on 8-for-19 shooting from the field. She moved into 13th place on the all-time scoring list at UD. Juniors Kathy Guin and Karah Cloxton finished with 16 and 10 points respectively while classmate Nikki Oakland pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds for the Flyers. UD trailed by as many as 17 points with 10 minutes left before a late second half run pulled the Flyers to within five with 2:15 left. Jennifer Strong and Kathy Guin paced the Flyers during the stretch with six and 10 points respectively. Four Bonnies reached double figures in scoring including Audrey Latendresse and Dana Mitchell with 16 points each. Katelyn Murray added 15 points while Ashley Edwards collected nine rebounds. Priscilla Edwards finished with 12 points, nine assists, four blocks and two steals. St. Bonaventure won the opening tip and converted a basket just 43 seconds into the game. From there the Bonnies went on a 19-4 run to open the game and drain two Flyer timeouts in the first 7:37 of the contest. Latendresse hit a pair of treys during the run while Priscilla Edwards had seven points as Bona took a 19-4 lead at the 12:23 mark. UD rode the shoulders of Karah Cloxton for the next 3:48 as the Flyers closed the gap to five on a 10-0 run. Cloxton had eight of the 10 UD points during the rally, which pulled Dayton to within 19-14 with 8:35 remaining. However, the Bonnies quickly responded with a 12-2 run of their own over the next 4:23 to take another 15-point advantage en route to a 33-22 halftime lead. Dayton started off the second half cold as well, falling behind by as many as 17 at 53-36 with 11:49 left. Strong and Guin helped the Flyers inch their way to within 10 on four occasions over the next 8:29 of the game. However, Dayton could not get within single digits until Kathy Guin drilled a trey from the left wing with 2:43 left. Jennifer Strong followed with jumper of her own to make the score 66-61 with 2:15 left. After two missed free throws by the Bonnies, UD came down the court trying to make it a one-possession game. However a Flyer turnover led to another Bona free throw attempt and UD would get no closer in a 70-63 loss. Dayton returns to action on Sunday in Philadelphia against Temple.
