CHARLOTTE, NC - Visiting Dayton had 20 points from senior Jennifer Strong including 18 in the second half, but Charlotte held off the Flyers, 82-70 in Atlantic 10 women's basketball action on Friday night.

UD (5-12, 0-2 A-10) has lost six straight road games while Charlotte (11-6, 2-0 A-10) extended the fourth longest home court winning streak in the nation to 19 games. The Flyers continue their road trip at Saint Louis on Sunday. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET in game that can be heard in the Dayton area on 1610 Information Radio (1610 AM) and www.DaytonFlyers.com.

Strong led UD with 20 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the field including 2-for-6 from three-point range. She was followed by 14 points from Kathy Guin and 10 by Kiki Lund. Guin had 10 of her points in the first half and finished with four assists as well a steal. Lund was 4-for-6 from the field with two assists and a steal.

Junior Nikki Oakland finished with eight points, seven rebounds, three blocks and three assists. Classmate Brittany Holterman led the Flyers with eight rebounds on the night.

Overall, the Flyers were out shot 51.6 percent to 44.3 percent from the field despite hitting 6-of-18 shots from three-point range. UD also had a season-best 10-of-11 performance from the free throw line.

Charlotte out rebounded Dayton 38-31 and held a 20-7 advantage in points off turnovers as well as a 50-30 lead at points in the paint.

Wendy Stywalt had a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Danielle Burgin finished with 16 points in the paint while Sabrina Gregory added 15 from outside for the 49ers.

The Flyers got off to a great start behind hot shooting from Kathy Guin. After a 4-4 start, UD went on a 7-0 run behind a trey and a layup from Guin. Kiki Lund followed with a jumper from the wing and Dayton led, 11-4 at the 17:09 mark.

Lund hit a trey 2:53 later to give the Flyers their biggest lead of the day at 14-6 as Dayton hit on six of its first nine shots from the field.

Charlotte closed to within a pair at the 10:17 mark before Kendel Ross hit a jumper in the paint to stretch the lead back to 20-16.

Then with a two-point lead with 7:33 left in the half, the A-10 leader in three-point shooting hit a trey from the top of the key. The basket by Traci Ray gave Charlotte the lead at 25-24 and ignited an 11-2 run for the 49ers over the next 3:02. That rally would allow the homestanding 49ers to take a 45-34 lead into the break at halftime.

After a hot start, Dayton finished the first half with a 45.5 shooting percentage from the field. UD was out rebounded 20-12 and had surrendered 24 points in the paint.

Charlotte kept its advantage into double digits for the first five minutes of the second half until Jennifer Strong hit her first three of the game from the left corner at the 15:01 mark to make a seven-point game at 52-45. After the 49ers came back with a bucket in the paint, Strong hit another trey 64 seconds after her first and a layup with 13:24 left to cut the deficit to 54-50.

Another run by Charlotte built their lead back to eight by the 12:13 mark before an 8-0 surge from the Flyers cut the deficit back to a pair at 62-60. An old fashioned three-point play off a jumper in paint and a free throw by Kiki Lund started the rally. Kendel Ross followed with a three and Kathy Guin added two free throws at the 9:53 mark to make it a two-point game.

However, Wendy Stywalt hit the next four points of the game followed by a layup in transition from Ashley Spriggs after a Flyer turnover. The 49er rally got the lead back to eight for Charlotte and Dayton would get no closer that six the remainder of the game in an 82-70 defeat.
