FLYERS CRUISE TO 10TH WIN OF SEASON, 95-73, OVER SAINT LOUIS

DAYTON, Ohio - The Dayton women's basketball team rolled to its 10th victory with a 95-73 win over Saint Louis Sunday afternoon at UD Arena as five Flyers reached double figures in scoring. Ashley Armstrong and Amber Peterink each scored their career-highs, with 13 points a piece, while Jennifer Strong also chipped in 13. The Flyers shot 53 percent from the field to run their record to 10-4 overall and 2-1 in the Atlantic 10. The 95 points was the most points by an Atlantic 10 team this season, and UD's first time hitting the 95 mark since 95-71 win at St. Bonaventure, February 20, 2000, during the season UD advanced to the WNIT. Playing their third game in five days - the first two on the road - the Flyers showed no ill effects as head coach Jim Jabir used all 12 dressed players liberally, and all 12 scored. The Flyers forced 23 turnovers and scored 31 points off those turnovers, including 21 in transition. UD also held a 38-30 edge in points in the paint and a 47-25 lead in bench scoring. Brittany Holterman tied her season high in rebounds with nine and added a career-high five assists to go with eight points. Jen Tisza also hit tied a career high with three points. Other Flyers in double figures were Cara Wright with 11 points on five-of-nine shooting and Kiki Lund, also with 11 points, on four-of-five shooting. Wright grabbed four rebounds in just 17 minutes of playing time, with the game getting out of hand early. Terri Ramsey added nine points and five assists against no turnovers. The Billikens were led by Yanique Javois' game-high 24 points in a game-high 30 minutes as SLU falls to 3-11 overall and 0-3 in the Atlantic 10. Terri Ramsey gave UD an early 4-2 lead by picking a SLU player's pocket at mid-court and coasting in for a lay-up. After Saint Louis tied it at 4-4, the Flyers embarked on a 14-0 run including threes from Kiki Lund and two from Jennifer Strong. UD and SLU traded baskets before a three-pointer from SLU's Tyler McIlwraith cut the Dayton lead to 20-9 with 13:01 to go in the first. Dayton started the game eight-of-11 from the field and four-of-five from three-point range in the first seven minutes. Nikki Oakland restored UD's 10-point lead - after three free throws from the Billikens - by hitting a turnaround jumper in the paint. Brittany Holterman's offensive rebound and put-back gave UD a 13-point lead at 28-15 with 7:17 before halftime. Amber Peterink converted an `and-one' opportunity and after a defensive stop, Peterink hit a pair of free throws as UD equaled its then-largest lead of the first half, 39-23, with 2:45 before intermission. Ashley Armstrong and Lund each nailed a three from the corner in the final two minutes of the half as UD took a 51-30 lead into the break. Dayton shot 57.6 percent in the first half (19-of-33), including six-of-nine from three-point range. UD scored 16 points off 10 SLU turnovers. Dayton held the Billikens to 36 percent shooting (9-of-25) in the first, including one-of-seven from long distance. Lund led all scorers at the half with 11 points (on four-of-five shooting), while Strong added 10. Holterman posted six points and six rebounds in 11 minutes in the first stanza. Javois led SLU at the break with eight points. Saint Louis opened the second half with four-straight points before Ramsey hit a lay-up, and Cara Wright scored seven-straight points for UD as the Flyers led 62-39 four minutes into the second. UD then went on an 8-0 run to lead by as many as 38 with 8:41 remaining at 82-44. The Billikens whittled the lead down with a 29-13 run but would get no closer than the final score of 95-73. Dayton is off to its best start since the 2002-03 team opened 8-4.
