Freshman Kendel Ross and sophomore Marie Rosche each recorded a career high in points as the Dayton Flyers snapped a seven-game losing streak defeating the Saint Francis Red Flash 87-66.

Ross scored 14, while Rosche came off the bench adding 10 as Dayton improves to 5-10 overall and 2-2 at home.

Junior Nikki Oakland and senior Jennifer Strong each added a game high 18 points. Strong also recorded seven of her team high nine rebounds on the offensive end.

The Oakland/Strong combo scored effectively and efficiently. Strong recorded her 18 points in 21 minutes, while Oakland nearly averaged a point per minute with 18 points in 19 minutes.

The fifth player in double figures was junior Kiki Lund with 11 points thanks to 4 of 9 shooting from the floor and hitting three three-pointers.

As a team the Flyers shot 42 percent from the floor and connected on seven three pointers. Even more impressive was the Flyers rebounding ability. UD hauled in 24 offensive rebounds and held a 49-41 advantage overall against the Red Flash.

On the defensive end, UD forced 25 turnovers and accumulated seven steals and five blocks.

Saint Francis drops to 3-10 overall. The Red Flash connected on 33 of 37 attempts from the free throw line, but shot 29 percent from the floor.

Christie Ayers led the Red Flash with 16 points, while Shawna Scott added 12.

UD never trailed in the contest thanks to an 11-1 run to open the game. The Flyers continued to pressure the Red Flash and connect on transition baskets going into halftime up 41-27. Oakland led the way with 10 points on 4 of 5 shooting from the field and four rebounds.

In the second half, the Flyers would build up a 68-40 lead with 9:25 remaining. Dayton would continue to pressure and hang on for the victory.

Points in the paint were key to Dayton's success. The Flyers held a 42-24 scoring advantage inside and connected on 33 points off of Saint Francis turnovers.

Other contributors for the Flyers included junior Ashley Armstrong with five points and four assists, while junior Brittany Holterman added eight rebounds off the bench.
