FLYER WOMEN TALLY RECORD-SETTING 14TH STRAIGHT WIN, BEAT ST. FRANCIS (PA) 80-64

LORETTO, PA - The University of Dayton women's basketball team made history Wednesday night at DeGol Arena as the Flyers recorded a modern school-record setting 14th-straight win in an 80-64 victory over St. Francis (PA). With the win, UD (14-2) is now tied for the top active winning streak in the nation and will enter Atlantic 10 Conference play with its most victories ever. Wednesday's win broke the previous school record of 13 straight wins set by the 1985-1986 squad. Four Flyers reached double figures in scoring led by Nikki Oakland's sixth double-double of the season. The senior tallied a game-best 17 points and 11 rebound to along with three assists and two blocks. She made 7-of-11 shots from the field in 28 minutes of action. Classmates Kiki Lund and Brittany Holterman finished with 14 and 11 points respectively for the Flyers which hit on 52.7 percent (29-of-55) shots from the field. Lund drilled 4-of-7 shots from beyond the arc while Holterman added five rebounds of her own. Sophomore Kendel Ross reached double figures in scoring for the second straight game with 11 points in 19 minutes played off the bench. The Flyers also held a commanding lead in rebounding (42-34) and bench points (37-15) while also dishing out 23 assists on 29 made baskets. Seniors Karah Cloxton and Kiki Lund dished out five assists apiece in the victory. It was slow out of the gate for the Flyers who shot only 5-of-18 (27 percent) in the first 10 minutes of play. It wasn't until Lund's three at 6:56 that sparked the Dayton offense first half as Oakland would connect on a basket and Lund and Guin would connect on back-to-back three's for a 32 -22 UD lead. Lund put up a stellar performance in the opening stanza with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc. The Flyers kept the lead with a 40-28 score heading into the half. Dayton battled to keep the lead in the second half leading by as many as 12 points, but the Red Flash managed to always answer back with a basket cutting it to 10 several times. Finally, an 8-0 run over a span of 2:24 put the game out of reach for the Red Flash. Nikki Oakland sparked the rally with a layup at the 4:50 mark. UD followed with a pair of made free throws from Ashley Armstrong sandwiched around another basket by Oakland. Kendel Ross would drill another jumper with 2:26 left to put the Flyers ahead by 18 en route to an 80-64 victory Dayton has 10-days off before opening up Atlantic 10 Conference play at home on Saturday, January 12.
