UD MEN FINISH SEASON IN 24TH PLACE AT NCAA REGIONAL
Nov. 13, 2004 YPSILANTI, Mich. - The University of Dayton men's and women's cross country teams ended their season in Ypsilanti, MI., Saturday competing in the NCAA Great Lakes Regionals. The men's team finished in 24th place (out of 29) and the women's team came in 25th place (out of 30). Wisconsin was the men's winner and Michigan took home the women's title. Wisconsin lead the way with 47 points, followed by Notre Dame (82), Butler (102), Michigan (111), and Indiana (116) to round out the top five. Some notable teams that competed in this race were Miami (256), who finished in ninth place, 14th place Cincinnati (413), Xavier (567) in 18th place, Wright State (603) in 21st place, and Dayton (726) in 24th place. Senior Brett Fisher (Strongsville, OH) lead the Flyers in 129th place with a time of (33:40.9). Sophomore Brian Gilchrist (33:51.0, Novi, MI) finished in 135th place, followed by 142th place freshman Michael Connolly (34:02.3, Strongsville, OH), 145th place Junior David Berning (34:09.0, Sideny, OH), 175th place sophomore Eric Contreras (34:54.2, Centerville, OH) and 181st place sophomore Matthew Manning (35:07.9, Canton, OH). Michigan finished first to win the women's crown with a 40 points. Notre Dame finished second with 79 points, followed by Michigan State (85), Indiana (148), and Marquette (166). Miami (364) finished in 12th place, Cincinnati (523) in 16th place, Xavier (642) in 23rd place, Dayton (680) in 25th place, and Wright State (873) in 29th place. Senior Michelle Griffin (Lancaster, OH) finished 115th for the women's team with a time of 22:42.0. Sophomore Kiera Gottemoeller (22:47.1, Ft. Loramie, OH) finished in 122nd place, followed by 125th place sophomore Lauren Fenske (22:60.1, Dublin, OH), 153rd place sophomore Tessa Mott (23:35.5, Columbus, OH), 165th place senior Colleen Devanney (23:44.8, Cincinnati, OH), 173rd place sophomore Amanda Tucker (23:57.6, Dublin, OH), and 180th senior Katie Dobies (24:15.8, Upper Arlington, OH). This was the last competition for both cross country teams for the 2004 season. |
