DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton senior Eric Contreras has been named Atlantic 10 Student-Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row for men's cross country. The award recognizes Contreras' achievements on the course and in the classroom, and is voted on by the sports information departments from every Atlantic 10 institution.

The Centerville, Ohio native repeats as the men's cross country Student-Athlete of the Year. Contreras placed second for UD and 21st overall at the 2006 A-10 Championship on October 28, finishing in a time of 26:18. The runner-up showing was a consistent finish for Contreras this year as he placed second among the Flyers in every meet in 2006.

The Flyers' senior captain was recognized for his team leadership and academic achievement by being named the 2005 "High Flyer." He sports a 3.94 grade point average while majoring in three different subjects - economics, marketing, and Spanish.

Contreras will join the rest of the Flyers for a trip to Bowling Green, OH to compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on November 11.
