University of Dayton sophomore Mike Andersen has been named the inaugural Atlantic 10 Men's Cross Country Performer of the Week of the 2006 season, following his near-record-setting effort in winning the Flyer 5K Challenge on Saturday.

Andersen, the 2005 A-10 Rookie of the Year and a member of the all-conference team as a freshman, recorded the second-fastest time by an individual champion in the meet's eight-year history. Despite running on a rain-soaked course, Andersen crossed the line in 15:21, which was just four seconds behind the meet record set by David Mitchell of Miami (Ohio) in 2004.

This is the Milford (Michigan) High School product's third A-10 weekly honor. He was named the league's Rookie of the Week twice on 2005. He has been UD's top finisher in all eight races of his Flyer running career.

Dayton cross country coach Rich Davis will lead Andersen and the rest of his teammates in their next action a week from Friday when the Flyers run in the National Catholic Invitational in South Bend, Indiana on September 15.
