UD A TWO-TIME CROSS COUNTRY ONLY NATIONAL CHAMPION
The Flyer Men's Cross Country team has won the Cross Country Only National Championships twice (2001 & 2003) in as many appearances. The annual 8K meet is hosted by Saint Louis University and is competed by institutions which sponsor intercollegiate cross country in the fall without offering a spring track program. The 2003 Championship featured junior Brian Roberts as the individual champion with senior Kevin Tscholl as runner-up. In addition to Roberts and Tscholl, junior Brett Fisher was named as a "Cross Country All-American" by virtue of a Top 10 (sixth) finish. Freshman Eric Contreras (11th), sophomore David Berning (23rd), senior David Bereda (24th), and senior Michael Eble (25th) rounded out the top-seven Flyer finishers. The 2001 Championship was won with four Flyers earning "Cross Country Only All-American" honors. Freshman Brian Roberts (third), sophomore Kevin Tscholl (fourth), junior Tim Mulligan (sixth), and freshman Zak Lewis (seventh) finished among the top ten individuals. Freshman Brett Fisher (12th), senior Phil Ranly (13th), and sophomore Michael Eble (16th) completed the team's seven-man scoring. The team did not compete in the 2002 and 2004 Cross Country Only Championships as they previewed the Atlantic 10 Conference Cross Country Championship course by competing in the Duquesne Invitational. |
